Meet Review: End of 2016

20 December 2016

 Funkita F-Teamers racing globally

It's been a big week for our Funkita F-Teamers as they finished the year strongly competing on both sides of the globe. In Australia, the Victorian Age Championships and Queensland State Titles were running simultaneously. Meanwhile, our UK F-Teamers united at the ASA National Winter Meet to turn heads, win medals and break records!

Here's a quick review of how some of our F-Teamers went.

Victorian Age Championships

Emily White

The 13-year-old was an event standout collecting a total of five gold medals in the 100m and 200m fly, 200m, 400m and 800m freestyle! Of all of these, it's the 200m fly that is her favourite.

"My greatest achievement from the meet was my 200m fly gold medal, as it was a huge 6 second PB and I broke a Norwood Swimming Club record by 5 seconds," Emily says.

Sophie Caldwell

Nunawading swimmer Sophie Caldwell also excelled grabbing four gold, three silver and one bronze medal, as well as becoming the 16-years age group champion! It was her second place and PB in the 400m free that Sophie lists as her most notable achievement of the meet.

"I was competing against fellow F-Teamer Emily Liu and it turned out to be a very close race, with Emily and I pushing each other the whole way," Sophie says.

Keilani Trewavis

15-year-old and fellow Nunawading swimmer Keilani Trewavis collected two gold, one silver and three bronze medals. Keilani's best performance was her gold medal 400m IM swim where she secured a new PB.

Queensland State Championships

Lydia Murray

When your backpack is heavier on the trip home because of the weight of your medal haul, you know you've had a good meet. For F-Teamer Lydia Murray, her four gold, one silver and one bronze individual medals was a welcome weight to bear. The 13-year-old also set two new Queensland records in the 100m and 200m fly - her 200m fly time is also a new Australian record of 2:13.80! Lydia smashed the previous record by almost two seconds!

As if that wasn't enough, Lydia was also awarded three titles: Swimmer of the Session, 13-years Swimmer of the Meet and Women's Swimmer of the Meet in all age groups! Phew, we're tired just writing about Lydia's results!!

Shikira Matheson

14-year-old Shikira Matheson has finished off her first year as an F-Teamer with a bang, well and truly establishing the fact that she's one to watch after collecting three gold and two silver.

Madi Thompson

It's been a big year for F-Teamer Madi Thompson. She raced in her first Open Short Course Championships, learnt that she will be School Captain for 2017, as well as winning a silver in the 100m breaststroke at QLD States in the 16 years age group!

"I am really happy with each of my swims, but to take home a silver was pretty cool after all the hard work I've put in. It's nice to know it's paying off!" Madi says.

Michaela Ryan

14-year-old Michaela Ryan won four gold and one silver at the meet, earning herself the title of Age Champion!

Stephanie Armstrong

Stephanie Armstrong travelled down from Far North Queensland for the meet and was super excited to race in her Funkita APEX suit. Steph raced in four individual events and clinched a one second PB in the 100m fly. Way to go Steph!

Lakeisha 'Lucky' Patterson

Paralympic Gold Medallist Lucky Patterson has had a very big 2016! Since returning from Rio, the Lawnton swimmer has continued to show her dominance in the S8 category. The QLD states were no different - there, she picked up an impressive 14 gold medals and the title of Swimmer of the Meet!

ASA National Winter Meet

Molly Renshaw

Molly Renshaw has had quite a year - from the Olympics in Rio to the World Short Course Championships in Canada and back to the ASA National Winter Meet in the UK! After her gold medal win in the 200m breaststroke at the World Short Course Championships, Molly jumped on a plane and got home in time for the ASA National Winter Meet where she won three gold in the 100m and 200m breaststroke and 200m IM. Her 2:17.98 swim in the 200m breaststroke is also a new British Record!

Ellie Faulkner

Dual Olympian Ellie Faulkner has ended 2016 on a high after racing to gold in the 200m free and bronze in the 400m free, as well as fourth in the 100m at the ASA National Winter Meet.

Katie Matts

18-year-old Katie Matts grabbed the silver in the 200m breaststroke behind fellow F-Teamer Molly Renshaw. She also came sixth in the 200m IM - a final where six of the ten competitors were all F-Teamers!

Rosie Rudin

For F-Teamer Rosie Rudin, 2017 is already shaping up to be a great year with a trip to Mexico with Team GB for an altitude camp highlighted on her calendar. Before she jets off, Rosie scooped a gold in the 400m IM at the ASA National Winter Meet.

Abbie Wood

Fresh off the plane home from Canada where she raced at her first World Short Course Championships, Abbie Wood joined five other F-Teamers in the final of the 200IM where she came second overall.

Congratulations to ALL the F-Teamers who raced at these meets. There were so many great results, we're very proud of you all!
