European success for first timers

20 December 2017

Congratulations!
A big congratulations to all our F-Team who compete at the European Short Course Championship!

British swimmers Kathryn Greenslade, Emily large, Charlotte Atkinson and Jocelyn Ulyett as well as Irish swimmer Mona McSharry and Portuguese swimmer Diana Duraes, all competed at their first European Short Course Championships last week in Denmark.

Mona McSharry was the star of the Irish swim team as she arrived on the European stage with a bang. She swam an impressive time of 1:05.01 in the 100m breaststroke final to finish 5th and set a new Irish senior record at just 17 years of age. Mona also finished 18th in both the 200m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.

Diana also swam in the women's 800m freestyle where she posted a time of 8:26.35, just shy of her entry time to finish in 7th. She also placed 16th in the women's 200m freestyle, swimming a huge PB of 1:58.62.

Fly queen Emily large showed her diversity as she finished 8th on day 1 in the women's 400m individual medley in a time of 4:39.01. Emily just missed out on the final in both the 100m and 200m butterfly but posted a speedy 50m butterfly time of 27.33.

Charlotte Atkinson had a fantastic week, racing across two butterfly events. In the 100m butterfly she posted a time of 57.61 in the semi-final to finish 10th, just missing out on a spot in the finals. Charlotte's success came in the 200m butterfly, where she smashed the heats in a time of 2:05.95 and set a new PB to qualify for the final where she finished in 5th position with a time of 2:06.19.

Loughborough swimmer, Jocelyn Ulyett, finished 6th in the women's 200m breastroke in a time of 2:21.07. She added the 100m breastroke to her list of events and after qualifying for the semi-final she finished 13th in a time of 1:05.94, however missed out on a place in the finals.

Congratulations to all the girls on such an amazing effort!
