F-teamers leave competition in the dust!

6 March 2018

Blair Evans
Blair Slashed N Burned up the competition at trials! Go Blair!

The Australian Commonwealth Games Swimming Trials provided four days of non-stop action on the Gold Coast with close races across the heats and finals.

Blair Evans won her first ever 200IM championship title and credits an injury free training run and harnessing nerves and using them in the right way for her success in the pool on the weekend. Blair's 400IM was a close one, in fact her last stroke was so short that she "almost didn't make it" but she was obviously flying fast enough to get across the line for a second gold! It was Blair's first double gold in a competition and she's only the 9th person to complete the double - 200 and 400IMs at the Australian Championships. Blair puts her success down to her great support system and leading a balanced life at age 26.

Holly Barratt
Holly Barratt left the young guns in the dust, claiming a silver medal in 50m back!

Another seasoned veteran to make the team is Holly Barratt who, at the age of 30, smashed some of the young guns, including a 13 year old, in the 50m backstroke final coming away with a silver medal in a time of 28.10.

According to Lucky Patterson, luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity... well it all came together for Lucky this weekend where she broke her own 100m freestyle para sport world record! For Lucky, life is about redefining "limitations" and smashing down barriers to unlimited possibilities.

Tianni Gilmour
Tianni Gilmour and Sophie Caldwell battled it out in the 200IM

In the third day of action Tianni Gilmore and Sophie Caldwell had to do a swim-off in the 200IM to see who would make it through to the finals, having tied for 9th place and finishing just 0.03 behind the 8th placegetter. Tianni pipped Sophie to secure her place in the finals where she managed an awesome result, finishing 8th.

Michaela Ryan had a cracking meet with an amazing 4th place finish in the finals of the 100m butterfly, touching the wall in a time of 58.96. Distance swimmer Mikayla Messer turned up the heat on night three to touch the wall 5th in the 800m final. The 200m backstroke final was hotly contested with everyone swimming well and Sian Whittaker grabbing 4th place behind some big names. In a 200IM final full of F-Teamers, Aisling Scott grabbed 7th place in what may have been her last swim, announcing that the Commonwealth Games trials was her "farewell tour".

It was fantastic to see the F-Team out in full force and posting such strong times. Now back to the grind?
