Young Guns Heading to Aus Champs

4 April 2019

Ready To Race
Our up-and-coming F-Teamers are ready to get racing at Aus Champs.

The 2019 Hancock Prospecting Australian Swimming Championships kick off on Sunday in Adelaide and this year is looking to be bigger and better than ever for our Funkita athletes. With a massive 16 Funkita F-Teamers competing in 26 events, it is shaping up to be a great event, especially for some of our up-and-coming athletes who will be competing against Australia's best. While these young guns still have to manage school demands, they don't let it slow them down. Below you can read more about the events our young athletes will be competing in when Nationals kicks off on Sunday.

Emily White

One young gun to keep your eye on is the local South Australian, Emily White, who swims with the Norwood Swimming Club. This superstar will be going hard at Aus Champs, competing in the 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle events. Having already competed on the national stage numerous times at the Australian Age Championships, and internationally at the Oceania Championships, this is going to be a great opportunity for Emily to show us her skills against some of the toughest competition Australia has to offer.

Hailing from Queensland is young powerhouse Abby Schoorl. The Bond University swimmer will be taking on a big program at this event, competing in 50m, 100m and 200m Backstroke, 50m and 100m Butterfly as well as getting her sprint on in the 50m Freestyle. Having made finals at NSW Open Champs last month, Abby is hoping to continue this success again in Adelaide.

Ash Weill
Ashley Weill is ready to get racing in her Fire Matrix APEX Predator.

Victorian swimmer Ashley Weill has been balancing her final year of school with her intense training load. Under the watchful eye of Olympian Ash Delaney at the Northcote Swim Club, Ashley has steadily risen up the ranks to become a force amongst Australia's top backstrokers. This young gun will be racing in all of the backstroke events: 50m, 100m and 200m.

Another young athlete who's set to get racing at Nationals is Emily Liu. Emily is also in her last year of high school, but is still managing the demands of her Marion Swim Club training schedule well. She will be racing in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle as well as the hotly contested 200m IM.
