Flying through the water and dominating the podium, our Funkita F-Team swimmers did more than just make waves at the Queensland State Champs. Although preparation for the meet was largely disrupted due to the COVID climate, the girls performed exceptionally well, reminding the swimming community that even amongst these tough times, success remains possible.

Australian Dolphin Lucky Patterson always has the busiest of programs at competitions, having competed in five events on day 2, one of those being a gold medal performance in the MC 100m Freestyle.

Carla Buchanan took home a bronze medal in the 100m Freestyle over the weekend.

The dynamic duo from Bond University Swimming Club Sarah Beale and Abigail Schoorl gave the Women's Open events a real shake. Both F-Teamers placed consistently high across all the three days, showing that training together paid off.

Commonwealth Games swimmer Tessa Wallace grabbed a couple of well-deserved silvers in the 100 IM and the 100 Breaststroke amongst her events. Carla Buchanan, a long-standing member of the F-Team team also managed to earn herself a bronze in the women?s 100 Freestyle.

Young members of the F-Team team including Tiana Kritzinger and Stefanie McCarthy also had killer meets, smashing the 15 and 17-year-old age groups respectively. Tiana came away with nothing but Gold for her meet, dominating the 1500 and 400 Freestyle before backing it up with the 200 IM. Alongside her, Stef received four podium positions out of her five total events across the 50, 100 and 200 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly.

Georgia Powell of UQ Swimming took out the Queensland title in all distances of Breaststroke (50, 100 and 200) whose times even placed 2nd in the open 50 Breaststroke and 3rd in the 200IM.

We are exceptionally proud of our eight F-Teamers, not only for their exceptional performances at the Championships, but for demonstrating to the swimming community that it is possible to overcome disruption and hardship to achieve.
