Funkita F-Teamers were on fire at the Australian Short Course Nationals in Melbourne last week. There was excitement in the air at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre with the nation's top swimmers vying for a spot on the Australian Dolphins Team that's heading to China for the 14th FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in December.

 Holly Barratt and Carla Buchanan
Two new additions to the Australian Dolphins Swim Team, Holly Barratt and Carla Buchanan.

Hard work and intense training loads have paid off for Holly Barratt and Carla Buchanan who secured their spots with the Australian Swimming team.

Commonwealth Games medallist Holly Barratt is not slow her down, with World Short Course Champs set to be her second major international event of the year. Qualifying to compete in the 50m Freestyle, Holly will be racing against some seriously tough competition in China this December.

Carla Buchanan is incredibly excited to have the chance to represent Australia in the 400m Freestyle. This will be Carla's second World SC Champs, last competing back in 2016. It has been a tough journey so far for her, having had health issues to contend with, but this team selection proves she is really back on track for Tokyo 2020.

In addition to awesome results in their Dolphin team qualifying events, Holly won gold in the 50m Butterfly and silver in the 100m Freestyle, while Carla took home a silver in the 100m IM and bronze in the 100m Freestyle. Other F-Teamers who had an awesome meet included Sian Whittaker, who won bronze in the women's 100m and 200m IM, and Tianni Gilmour who came third in 200m Butterfly.

Lucky Patterson

Our Multi-Class swimmers also took home an impressive number of Nationals medals. Lucky Patterson won 2 gold, 3 silver and broke 4 World Records, Katja Dedekind won gold in the 50m and 100m Backstroke, and Taylor Corry scored gold in 100m Butterfly.

The winning women's 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay team was also mostly Funkita F-Teamers with Emma Malcolm, Sian Whittaker and Gabriella Peiniger taking home the gold.

Other F-Teamers who competed at SC Nationals were Sophie Caldwell, who also scored medals in the Freestyle and Medley relay, Jessica Adams, Sarah Beale, Emily Liu, and Ashley Weill.

Congratulations to everyone who competed!
