Short Course Nationals Wrap Up

8 November 2016

F-Teamers at the 2016 Australian Short Course Championships

Brisbane was THE place to be for the 2016 Australian Short Course Championships where we had 19 Funkita F-Teamers repping and racing at a very fast meet!

Just back from her impressive Rio Paralympics outing, Lakeisha 'Lucky' Patterson was a standout performer winning her 400m freestyle MC in a World Record time plus a 100m free gold medal and a fourth in the 50m free.

Breaststroker Aisling Scott grabbed gold in the 200m breaststroke with a 2:21.87 and silver in the 100m IM plus a fourth in the 100m breast.

Brisbane distance swimmer Mikayla Messer smashed 30 seconds off of her PB in the 1500m free in a 16:06.10 winning gold from fellow distance swimmer Kareena Lee by just 0.5 seconds making it a Funkita 1-2! Kareena also won bronze in the 800m free. We just missed a Funkita trifecta in the 1500m freestyle with Perth pocket-rocket Sacha Downing touching in fourth.

Tianni Gilmour powered through the 400m IM in 4:39.27, earning her third spot on the podium. Victorian backstroker Sian Whittaker touched in fourth position in the 200m backstroke, and Taylor Corry walked away with an impressive medal haul of three gold in the 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 200m individual medley and a bronze in the 100m freestyle - all Multi Class events.

For Madi Thompson and Michaela Ryan, the champs were a debut event on the Open swimming stage and both were proud to compete for the first time. The girls will no doubt benefit from the experience in Brisbane.

A quick shout-out to all the F-Teamers who raced as well!

Funkita prize winners
Mikayla Messer, Lani Palister and Maddison Delany are all lucky Funkita winners!

Kareena provided us with plenty of action from the pool deck and picked out some well-deserving winners for our pool deck prizes.

Mikayla won best pool deck snacks for her amazingly well organised array of grapes, nuts and a sandwich keep her going throughout the meet.

Lani Palister won best new comer on pool deck for her debut at Opens and swimming the 200m, 400m and 800m free. And finally the winner of the #funkitapb award is Maddison Delany for her 1:02.86 in the 100IM which beat her PB by 0.24. Maddison swims for Southern Cross Swimming Club and is coached by Funky Trunks F-Teamer Jayden Hadler!

Until the next meet, keep training hard Funkettes!
